PS5 HDMI port repair: why the port fails, how we replace it, and what it means for your console.

The HDMI port is the single most common PS5 repair that comes through our door. The console turns on, the light is white, the controller connects, and the TV says no signal. The good news: it is a well-understood, permanent fix.

PlayStation 5 opened on a repair bench with the mainboard exposed for an HDMI port replacement
The short version: power the PS5 off, try a different HDMI cable and a different TV input, then look inside the port with a light. Bent or broken pins mean the port needs replacing. We do it in-house, usually within a day.

How to confirm it is the port

  • The console powers on normally and the controller connects, but the TV shows no signal, a flicker, or a picture that cuts out when the cable is nudged.
  • A different cable and a different TV input make no difference.
  • With a flashlight you can see bent, missing or pushed-in pins inside the port, or the port itself feels loose.

If the console does not power on at all, or the light is blue or blinking, that is a different fault (power supply or software) and we diagnose it separately.

Why PS5 HDMI ports break

The port is soldered to the mainboard with small surface pads, and the plug sticks out of the back where it gets tugged, stepped on, or pulled when the console is moved with the cable attached. One hard yank bends the pins; a cable at a steep angle for months fatigues the solder.

What the repair involves

This is a board-level repair: the console is opened, the mainboard comes out, the damaged port is desoldered with hot air, the pads are cleaned and checked under a microscope, and a new OEM-grade port is soldered in and tested for a stable picture at 4K. If a pad was torn off with the old port we rebuild the trace. The console goes back together with fresh thermal paste.

How long it takes and the warranty

Most PS5 HDMI repairs are done the same day or next day. The replaced port is covered by our 30-day warranty, and in practice a correctly fitted port outlasts the original because we add strain relief where the plug seats.

Xbox Series X|S and PS4

The same fault and the same fix apply to Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and PS4 — the port is slightly different on each, and we keep them in stock.

Quick answers

Can I fix a PS5 HDMI port myself?

It requires hot-air desoldering on a dense board; a mistake lifts pads and turns a one-hour repair into a board rebuild. We recommend leaving it to a shop with a microscope.

How long does a PS5 HDMI repair take?

Usually the same day or next day, with the port in stock.

Will I lose my games or saves?

No. The repair is hardware only; the storage is untouched.

Is it worth repairing a PS5 HDMI port?

Yes. The port is a small part of the cost of a new console and the repair is permanent when done correctly.
