That drawer full of old phones and forgotten laptops? It can put a working device in the hands of someone in our community who can't afford a repair. You donate the parts — we donate the labor.
A phone is not a luxury anymore.
It's how people call work, reach the doctor, talk to their kids' school, and stay connected to family. When a screen shatters or a battery dies, most of us just get it fixed. But for some of our neighbors here in West Valley City, even a basic repair is money they simply don't have that month.
At the same time, almost every home has a drawer with old devices nobody uses — phones with cracked glass, laptops that won't turn on, consoles that got replaced. Those "dead" devices are full of perfectly good parts: screens, batteries, boards, buttons.
So we connect the two. You donate the device. We strip it for working parts and put in the repair labor for free. The result: someone who couldn't pay walks out with a working phone or laptop — at no cost to them, and no cost to you beyond cleaning out a drawer.
How donating your old electronics works.
1. Bring in any old device. Phones, laptops, tablets, consoles, controllers — working or not, cracked or dead. Walk in any time; it takes a minute.
2. We wipe it and recover the parts. Any personal data is securely erased. Then our technicians harvest every component that still works.
3. A neighbor gets a free repair. When someone comes in who genuinely can't pay, we use donated parts and put in the labor ourselves — free of charge. The community provides the parts. We provide the hands.
Nothing donated is resold. Devices that can't give usable parts are responsibly recycled instead of ending up in a landfill.

If it has a screen or a circuit board, it can probably help someone. We accept used and broken cell phones (iPhone, Samsung, and any Android), laptops and MacBooks, desktop computers, tablets and iPads, game consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch), controllers, chargers, and accessories. Cracked screen? Dead battery? Won't turn on? Perfect — those are exactly the part donors our program runs on. Drop off at our West Valley City shop, no appointment needed; we welcome donors from Taylorsville, Kearns, and across the Salt Lake valley.

What electronics can I donate?
Any phone, laptop, desktop, tablet, game console, or controller — working or broken. Even devices that won't power on usually contain good screens, batteries, boards, or buttons we can use in free community repairs.
Is my personal data erased?
Yes. Every donated device with storage is securely wiped before anything else happens. If a device is too damaged to wipe by software, we physically destroy its storage.
Do you resell donated devices?
No. Nothing donated is resold. Devices become parts for free repairs for neighbors who can't pay, and anything unusable is responsibly recycled instead of going to a landfill.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
To be straightforward: UTTECH is a local repair shop, not a registered 501(c)(3) charity, so donations are not tax-deductible. What we promise instead is direct impact — your device's parts plus our free labor go straight to someone in the community who needs them.
